Emma Adler

At the center of Emma Adler‘s expansive, multimedia installations are themes of fake news and conspiracy narratives—along with the associated question of different levels of reality. By questioning supposed certainties about the relationship between reality and media representation, her conceptual works shed light on the rapid spread of propaganda and populism online. They intertwine the digital excesses of conspiratorial narratives, fascist discourses, and deepfakes with the everyday aesthetics of normalization and typification. A significant focus of her work is the increasingly obsolete boundary between virtual and physical reality in today’s post-truth era.

Emma Adler studied Fine Arts in Saarbrücken and Berlin and currently lives and works in Berlin. Her works have been exhibited in venues including the Zeppelin Museum Friedrichshafen, the Academy of Arts Berlin, the Neuer Aachener Kunstverein, the Kunstverein Bremerhaven, and the Kunsthaus Dahlem. In 2022, she received a working grant from the Stiftung Kunstfonds Bonn and was a Fellow of the Junge Akademie in 2023.

Die Warheit, 2024

Die Warheit is a sculptural work composed of individual elements from the immersive, multimedia installation POV: o Mutter deine Blumen bleich wie du im Neonlicht (POV: o Mother, your flowers pale like you under neon light) (2024).

The piece critically examines fake news, conspiracy narratives, and neo-fascist discourses. It questions the construction of reality and its media representations. The work combines the everyday aesthetics of German front gardens with sculptural references to AI-generated propaganda from the AfD. Hands with visible flaws—visual glitches—serve as symbols of the mechanisms of political violence. Adler uses these disruptions in perception to expose the manipulative power of narratives and representations.
